I’m searching for a stroller, a double for the twins.
What is your favorite double stroller? And do you prefer side by side or inline? And why? I’ve noticed a lot more people with the side by side these days, but it seems like they would be hard to fit in certain places.
Also there are a few options with a double, and a sit and stand. I know it would be MASSIVE, but Ledger could still use a stroller. Like today, I’m contemplating walking a few blocks over to take Ledger to watch the Homecoming parade, and it would be nice if I had a stroller for him. But then again, he might not use it very often, because let’s face it, it’s pretty difficult to leave the house.
Anyway, I’d love to hear your opinion, especially mom’s of multiples. Thanks!
I'm a grandma, but have some experience with double strollers. My kids (I have 2 with 3 kids, and 1 with 2 kids) have both, for different reasons. They love the double wide for taking walks outside, jogging, etc. They have the kind that can also convert to hitch on to a bike. For general use they LOVE the long ones where one sits behind the other. They fit through doors, down store aisles, etc. They are very versatile as far as who sits where, and as kids get older the sit and stand option is great. They all claim that if they had to choose just one, they would take the long one rather than the wide one.
ReplyDeleteI love love love my Baby Jogger City Select. I also had the Baby Jogger City Mini DOuble and I much prefer the city select vs the mini because I hated the side by side. It fits through all doors but its so wide its annoying to me. And its honestly not that wide. The city select is the only convertible stroller that offers 2 full size seats. The Britax B-Ready has a smaller 2nd seat. The City Select also has a board you can put on the back for Ledger to ride on too. I love all the seat options, the huge basket (could barely even reach the basket on the city mini double) It pushes So smoothly! It also converts back to a single stroller if you do ever decide to try for a girl ;) Love it!! feel free to ask me any questions about it. stacyhughey@gmail.com
ReplyDeleteI have four kids, five years and younger, and we use our double stroller All the time! I would definitely choose one that has individual visors over each seat, and I would choose an inline because it fits down isles and works better in crowded areas! I have had two different kind and the main difference between the two is one collapsed down to fit in our van very easily and our other one didnt fit (and we have a normal van) in our truck which was so frustrating! Good luck looking!
ReplyDeleteI would try and decide what exactly you will be using it for. Are you going to take it to the mall, zoo, running, park, etc? Find out exactly what you want to use it for most and then pick one from there. I LOVE the BOB stroller. It has shocks on it that are AMAZING for any kind of bump the wheels might go over. I also love that it has bike tires that I can feel with slime and never have to worry about a flat. It is perfect for running, hiking, and zoo but if I was only going use it to go to the park it wouldn't be worth the $$. Check out KSL too. Good luck!

My two cents... I like the in-line strollers for a few reasons. While it is like driving a bus, you are on the "skinnier" side of things and it is easier to move through crowds (we spent a lot of time at Disneyland when our girls - who are two years apart - were small. In fact, they are 5 and 7 and we still use it even though the 7 year old really is too big. She loves being able to rest and it makes it much easier to get through crowded spaces in one group because I can follow my husband as he pushes. But in clothing stores and stuff where the aisles are tight, you'd never get a side by side through. And depending on what type you get, some are longer than others.
ReplyDeleteI also like the one we have because it has tons of storage space. I also like that the seats recline and my girls can nap. Maybe if you have friends with different stroller types, you could borrow each for a short outing.
I don't care for the ones where one kid is kind of below the other kid. Who wants to be at someone's butt? LOL.
I prefer inline, we have a side by side and it doesn't fit through doors easily. inline seem sturdier as well.
ReplyDeleteI love my BOB duallie. I used it for running, and for everything else. We fit through every door, except the ones built in the 1700's at the historical sites in Philadelphia. Even my front door was no problem. The only drawback is that it takes up so much room in the car. Otherwise, I feel like it's the best bang for your buck because it's so versatile. Umbrella style? I like the Jeep one because it was cheaper than the expensive ones and still has a lot of the features. Not all the fancy features, but I decided to spend the money on the BOB (which we have taken EVERYWHERE, from the mall to the beach), and get the cheaper umbrella style. Oh, the front wheel can lock for running and swivel for everywhere else. It is truly a one handed stroller. Love it!!
ReplyDeleteI have 3 different strollers...I know crazy but I use them for all different things. I have a double chariot that we use when we are out hiking and camping....sometimes my twins and my 3 year old are all in it. I have a double stroller I use for church, the zoo, shopping and everyday things. And yes even then sometimes my 3 year old will sit on top of the stroller as I push when he is "tired" of walking. I also have a double sit and stand which is nice as well. We've used it in the airport, and on paved sidewalks. I've even taken it to church a few times...although it really is kinda long. I guess I'm probably no help since I have and use all 3 types... kayetuia@hotmail.com
ReplyDeleteI had twins and a two year old so I understand needed the two year old to be contained. I often used the bjorn for a baby so I could put my toddler in the stroller! As for side by side v double I bought both. At first I loved the back to back versions so the car seats could clip on and sleeping babies would be moved easily. Then I bought the peg perego twin aria. It fits through all doors everywhere no issue, it was crazy light weight. I loved it. But my twins got older around one and they would fight like crazy, wake each other up. It was unbearable to the point I went out and repurchased a back to back stroller (my freedom depended on it). It was bigger and bulkier but the girls didn't fight. It was just a stage (but it lasted a year) and then I went on to use the side by side for 3 more years. My hubby teased me but with twins and a toddler I needed sanity and freedom and it was ok to have two strollers to get that!
ReplyDeleteWe have a Phil and Ted's and love it. We only have one right now, but I have used it with my brother's kids. My sister-in-law often doubles up her littler ones and uses it for 3 of her 4 kids. I also saw a really cool triple stroller the other day (jogging) it was a double in back and then one in front. Good Luck!
ReplyDeleteI had the city mini with my twins and loved it. I found with my older she didn't need the stroller as much but if she did then I would bring my ergo or moby wrap and just wear one baby and juse the other seat for her and had the carseat attachement and all. It's super easy to navigate, and my favorite parts, LIGHTWEIGHT! The sunshades are huge which I also loved. It was never to big or bulky.
ReplyDeleteI just bought a Chicco side by side for my boys and it works GREAT! It fits through all the doorways and it has lots of storage. The seats recline all the way back and I love that when its nap time. I just use a umbrella stroller for Reese because she doesn't always need it and its easy to pack. Good luck!
ReplyDeleteI have the Schwinn double jogging stroller. I find that the jogging stollers are way easier to push. I never liked the inline ones because I feel like they are heavier and harder to push. The Schwinn is a great brand but not too expensive. I LOVE mine!!
ReplyDeleteI love my Jeep side by side one because it is so compact and can fit almost anywhere! But I also love my Combi side by side. Its a little nicer and the seats recline. It folds up pretty small too. I like my Gracoinline, but its so big!!
ReplyDeleteI love our Bumbleride Indie Twin. It has tires that you can "off road" with but still great for basic errands. It fits through all doors (I have friends that say the BOB is an inch wider and doesn't always make it). It's pricey, but awesome! We also have a Joovy Ultralight Double. Folds much smaller than double and is front to back so better in stores and SO Light. I think you can even get the one that has the extra seat for the third child. But you can't use it on any off road surface. Finally, I've heard that a good compromise is the Citi Mini Double!
ReplyDeleteI'm not a mommy, but I love the idea of the strollers that the kids face each other!!
ReplyDeleteSchwinn double side-by-side. It's soooo easy to push. A little big, but it does fit in a trunk.
ReplyDeleteI dont have twins, but if I did I would probably look into a stroller like the Britax B-Ready or Baby Jogger City Select. They're both inline strollers, but don't have as large of a footprint as a lot of other inlines, which makes it easier to push and turn. When it'd be easier for Ledger to ride in the stroller, you could wear one of the twins or get one of those removable stroller boards for him to hop on and off. Good luck!
ReplyDeleteHey Ashley,
ReplyDeleteI am Nonny to eight...two sets of twins! The DOUBLE BOB is hands down the easiest to push!! My daughter has the City Mini side by side and though it is nice and a little smaller, it does not push near as easily as the Double Bob. There are three styles of the DB but the one with the swivel front wheel is what we have and it is fabulous. We also have the Maclaren double with the attachment on the back for the toddler to stand up on. It is very difficult because you have to walk to the side to keep from hitting it with your feet! We actually have two more strollers for twins but I can't think of the names of them because I only want to use the Bob! Good luck!

ReplyDeleteThis is the stroller we have for my now 5- and 3-year-olds. It was perfect with two active little goobers. It would fit the carseat when my son was little, but was still great with the seats it came with.
My favorite part is that they can face each other, both face front, both face you, or both face out. We used it on our Disneyland trip a year ago, and my (not small) then four year old and two year olds both fit in just fine. Plus there is a TON of space for diaper bags, and other "stuff" you accumulate as a mom.
It is big, bulky, and kind of a pain in the neck to take places, but it is a total lifesaver once we are there. :)
Hope this helps.
Hey Ashley,
DeleteWe have this stroller as well and it's wonderful! The seats can be positioned front or back and the storage room is amazing! I am sure with twins you need a lot of stuff and the storage space does not disappoint. I think the seating can hold up to 50 lbs per seat or 100 lbs total weight. We also have a double jogger in step that we do everything outside with. It does not fit in the van though so it's definitely a "keep your sanity while your at home" stroller. Hope this helps!
When my twin boys were fresh from the NICU I had a front & back double, a graco, and it worked well. We chose it because it was the smallest when folded up, and also lightest to carry.
ReplyDeleteAs they got older (right at 1 year), there wasn't enough room underneath it, so we got a baby trend side by side stroller. We only use it at the park, outside, amusement park type places as any older buildings it cannot fit through the doors.
I liked both for different reasons. Good luck with the boys! I too have an older boy and then twin boys, just over 2 years apart. Good times are ahead!
First, just wanted to thank you for sharing your story, I love reading your blog and seeing what great things the Lord is doing in and through your sweet family! I have 3 boys, though not multiples, I had them all in 3 years time so it was crazy for a while lol. I used the Graco Duoglider (front/back) which I LOVE! It unfolds/folds up easily and is very durable. I also have an InStep double jogger (side by side) which is nice for walks around the neighborhood but honestly, I could not manage it in public and its a lot heavier than my Graco to lift in and out of the trunk. The side by side can be VERY cumbersome in stores/aisles :P But theyre super easy to push if youre mainly using it for exercise, the park, etc. If youre looking for a everyday one for when youre out and about though, front/back is the way to go in my experience :-)
ReplyDeleteI don't personally have one, but a few of my friends swear by Phil & Teds. They look awkward to me but my friends say that the kids love them. They go through all doors easily. And you can take one of the seats off if you want. That doesn't help the situation with Ledger though.
ReplyDeletebeing a mom to twins i had both. and i liked my side by side. it was a called the twin combi. and it folds down easily. it fit through every doorway. here is their site http://www.combiusa.com/Products/Strollers/Twin-Cosmo/46
ReplyDeletebut you can get it from other places. i believe we got ours from target. and we used it for 5 years!
My boys are 13 months apart. My older boy was t even walking when my baby was born. So we got the britax b safe stroller it has an attachment on the bottom to convert it to the double stroller.
ReplyDeleteOk your going to get a million comments on this post! But seriously here me out on this one because I just bought a new double/triple stroller and I LOVE LOVE LOVE it! I bought the Valco Baby double stroller that has a toddler third seat attachment that can easily be taken off or put back on whether you have 2 or 3 kids with you. I have two under 2 and I babysit a 1 year old often so I needed a stroller to fit 3 kids. This stroller is a dream! It turns on a dime (used to have a chicco double stroller and that thing was so hard to turn) yes the Valco double stroller is a side by side but it easily fits through a standard door. I seriously have been thinking about you on this very topic for a while now because this totally seems like something that you need. I have even gone jogging with all three kids in it. Here is the link with where I bought mine from- http://www.albeebaby.com/valco-baby-twin-trimode-ex-in-arctic.html (p.s. you buy the 3rd seat separately) if you buy it here it saves you 100+ dollars. I know it is kind of expensive but seriously SO worth every cent and I have only had mine for a few months. Good luck! Hope you find the right thing to fit your family!
ReplyDeleteHi Ashley! Great questions about strollers...here's a little bit of my take on it. In the beginning the double snap n go stroller is great, is fairly cheap, and folds up easy and is pretty lightweight. Loved it. The only problem (which is not really a problem considering how cheap these strollers can be, especially if found on craigslist) is that these are not long term strollers bc they really only last as long as the babies are in their infant car seats. We were gifted a Maclaren twin triumph stroller and I love that for quick trips into stores, going into preschool, etc. It's a side by side and the boys like sitting next to each other and looking at each other. We also have a bumbleride indie twin that can be used as a jogging stroller. It's ok. (If I had to buy a jogging stroller all over again, I might've gone with the double BOB though.) If you're looking for something that can fit all three of your boys, then my friend suggested to me the Valco double stroller with the toddler seat attachment. She swears by it...even runs with all three of hers in it, but I didn't do it bc truthfully, our daughter didn't want to be in the stroller all the time. I used to put Margo in the double stroller with Hayes and carry Harris in the Baby Bjorn (but prefer Ergo). It was so much easier and Harris has always been my smallest baby so he was always the one in the carrier. Lots of options though. Cannon and Cruiz are adorable! I'm basically reliving my boys' infant stage thru your blogposts! Ha! :)

ReplyDeleteMy boys are 14 months apart so I got a double stroller when my second was born. I asked a lot of questions and, after stopping people in the mall with the side by side strollers and asking about them - I heard the same thing over and over, they were nice for outside but getting them through doors and down store aisles was a chore and sometimes did not work at all. I ended up going with a double with a sit and stand. If you won't use it a ton, you may want to go with the double/sit and stand and then get a body wrap . . by the time one of the babies is too big for the wrap, Ledger might be old enough to walk most places??
ReplyDeleteHands down the bob- I've had a couple inline ones and I finally gave up and spent the money. Super easy to push and amazing with running!! I don't shop at clothing stores with my kiddos so the side by side isn't an issue. With this one on the way I plan on putting kayden in the front where "the feet go" that's what my friend does with her older one. He can sit there easily but still have the freedom to get up and get out if he wants. Seems to work great for her so I'm hoping for the same results once I have two littles who need to be buckled or locked in (with the carseat)
ReplyDeleteI triple heart love my aqua blue Bumbleride Indie. Not sure if it comes in a double but I'd buy that stroller a thousand times over. I used to have a used red Kolcraft double (inline). It had a spacious basket but was very bulky and heavy even without kids in it. It was fine around the neighborhood but I never took it in the car.
ReplyDeleteValco trimode twin with the optional toddler seat. It can be a double or a triple stroller depending on your needs. Add the hitchhiker in the back and you can have a fourth kid standing. It's so easy to push even with four kids. This is the best stroller ever. More expensive than most but well worth the money. Any time we go anywhere we get questions about the stroller. I love it!
ReplyDeleteWe are not the super fancy & expensive stroller type so the Contours Options Double Stroller was the one we went with. Have not officially used it yet, but love all the seating options and the PRICE! We found it for under $200 at Burlington.

I had the Baby Trend Double Jogger for my 2 kids and I loved it being a side by side stroller, but didn't at the same time. It does a great job out and about anywhere outdoors, but any type of place that had any sort of crowd, it was too big and bulky. Any store (grocery, clothes, etc.) is a struggle because it is so wide. It DOES fit through most doors, but I did have a hard time with a few (like apartment or homes that didn't have front doors that swing ALL the way open) and they obviously don't fit on escalators, so it was a pain to find the elevator and sometimes the elevators were too narrow.) ...this might be an east coast problem...we had problems in DC, New York City (there were nearly no elevators in the subway system!), Philadelphia, and Baltimore. I didn't even want to try the airport with it because it can be so big and small airports sometimes have steps to the plane...which nearly any and all people are kind enough to help, but I din't want to have to rely on the kindness of the strangers I was flying with. When traveling on a side walk, it often takes up the WHOLE side walk and if there isn't grass or gravel along the edges, then there is just an awkward passing to squeeze by each other. I also like to run and it was too heavy, and I am not in shape enough, to push two kids on the rolling hills that we have in Pennsylvania....I don't have the strength to run AND push the kids up the hills, and I was afraid that going down the hills that the stroller might run away too fast or drag me down the hill when I wore the safety strap. So when I go running, I just do it when my husband is home and don't have to take the kids. I had way too many awkward moments where the double wide stroller is just too wide for my comfort, so I sold it. The stroller that I hope to get is the Phil and Ted jogger that has the doubles seat attachment. I have been asking people about them and over 20 people that I have asked have said that their kids love the lower attached seat and prefer it. Some parents say that their kids argue over who gets their turn in the lower seat. So I am hoping to Craigslist one of those soon as it has the perks of a double stroller, but the size of a single stroller.
ReplyDeleteThe BOB stroller is amazing. It is expensive, but by far the best purchase we made. It's one stroller that grows with the kid so there is no buying multiple strollers. We take it everywhere. It's easy to push and goes easily over every surface. The kiddos love it and it's durable. Great for jogging, also. We will never have another stroller. It also folds up easy and expands easy. You can take the wheels off if u need to fit it somewhere. Try it out!

ReplyDeleteI watched a woman at the zoo come out of one of the buildings and get stuck with her side by side stroller and that made my decision. I have the graco quatro tour duo stroller and I love it. I purchased it when I had my second child and I now have four (ages 7, 5, 4, 2) and I couldn't live with out. If you lay down the back seat you can totally put two children back there...I have done it. This stroller is expensive but it has tons of storage and has held up better then my other friends strollers. My sister also uses this same stroller.
ReplyDeleteIt is much easier to push in stores when you are going in and out of clothes racks and things a side by side would be impossible. Good Luck! I did my research and was so happy with my purchase.
Baby Jogger City Select! You can also get a glider board attachment so there is an option for a sit n stand for your son. We have one, and I almost couldn't get over the price BUT I'm glad I did! Best baby purchase ever!
ReplyDeleteI loved loved loved the combi twin savvy. My first two kids are 16 months apart and number 2 and 3 kiddos we 22 months apart. It steered well, fit thru doors and I could easily see both kids. Loved loved loved it! Good luck!
ReplyDeleteI had twins and a two year old many years ago. It was hard to get around with all three of them but looking back I wish I ventured out with them more. I needed the change in scenery and needed to hang with other people. (adults that I could have a conversation with!) My twins did not like the stroller where one was in front and the other behind. They both wanted to see. Instead I got a side by side which worked like a charm. It was sometimes a pain getting through doorways but the kids were happy. I became quite a pro with k turns and backing up. People were nice when you have a cute wide load also. They'd chat with the babies which was always a nice distraction. We used and umbrella stroller with my older child. It was small, cheap and quick when we needed it.
ReplyDeletethe stroller question! so many options and opinions. it's hard because depending on your lifestyle, the needed stroller for everyone differs. we were moving to france with a 3 yr and 6mo old and as i searched out double options i came to buy the bumbleride indie twin. initially we tried the jeep inline but i found it heavy to push and awkward. the bigger child has to sit in the front seat to allow a car seat to clip into the back seat and that heavy child in the front makes a long stroller tough to push. when getting a new double, i loved the BOB double jogger but was worried about the width in europe and not fitting. the bumbleride is narrower and i fit in the tiny elevators here just barely. however, side by sides in stores can be tight. but they are easier to push! especially one-handed while holding ledger's hand. i am also a runner and used the bumbleride for my running. unfortunately, i don't think it holds up to the miles. if you want to have jogging durability, i believe a 3-wheeled jogger is better than 4 wheels. the forks seem to do better. the bumbleride frame just doesn't seem as durable. which is a shame bc it is pricey. i've had bent fork issues with 2 different frames. so i have a single jogger as well and got the bob dualie single and LOVE IT. it is the best thing to run with. my sisters have the double and it is just as great. it is wide, but they tell me they fit through all standard u.s. doors. and something to think about for ledger- now i have my new baby in the single bob and if my daughter is a bit tired and wants to sit for a minute, she actually sits in the foot place of the BOB. it is like a deep pocket that she can take a break in. obviously it wouldn't work for running with all 3 kids or containing a screaming toddler, but to give a short lift it works. not sure if ledger is too small to try that, but a thought. the frame, wheels, durability of the bob are really the best for miles and versatility.
ReplyDeleteyour boys are absolutely adorable. i truly appreciate your openness and vulnerability in the tough and personal things you share. thank you for sharing your faith so lovingly. take care of yourself amidst the demands of little ones and good luck!

My twins are two years younger than there sister. I recommend the Duo Glide snap and go for the first six months. It is a metal frame that the car seats snap into. You can transfer straight from car to stroller and it is so light weight. After that we got a stroller that they where right behind each other because of the door issue. My daughter just walked with me, she stayed right by me. We also bought a sit and stand when they were older and we had had baby #4. They could share the space and baby rode up front.
ReplyDeleteI have a Baby Trend Double Jogger. Its side by side...yes, it doesn't fit inside buildings very easily, so if you're hoping for a stroller that you can take into stores, the stores need to have wider openings or double doors...However, it folds down easily, the car seats can fit inside of it, and it goes from a full incline to sitting up easily. Also, the front is sturdy and durable. My 7 year old niece was at a baseball game with us when we decided to walk for ice cream. I was able to keep my girls happily in their seats and my niece was able to sit on the front of the stroller when she got tired of walking, so you have the possibility of carting 3 kids around if you need to. Side by side is nice if you're going to events like parades, fairs, etc, because it allows for both kids to see what's going on without having to look over someone's head. I think the only thing I'm not over the moon about with my double stroller is that it pretty much takes up the whole back of my car if we want to take it anywhere...that being said, it folds up easily and is easy to lift because it has handles. It also has MP3 speakers on it, so you can plug in your iPod or phone and both you and the kids can hear the music as you're out and about...also being a jogger, its all terrain. I can take it into the sand next to the toys at the playground and have no problems. It fits up to 60 lbs in each seat, so conceivably you could use it for a good long while.
ReplyDeleteHighly recommend the phil and teds double stroller. We found one on craigslist for a great price. We have 3 kids 3 and under and fit them all in it. One in the back, one in the front, and one on the footrest. I could send you a picture if you wanted. But it has been our best purchase ever. You feel like you are pushing a normal stroller and not a giant bus. I have never had a problem getting it through doorways and can even push it with one hand. We lived in DC for six months and never had a problem. It was the only way I could get around with all the kids. People kept asking me what stroller I had because they were amazed I could get 3 kids on it. Also, it is really light unlike a lot of other double strollers. My sister in law threw her back out with her double stroller because it was so big. I convinced her to get a phil and teds and she now loves it! May I love that thing!
ReplyDeleteah, the stroller question! it's tough because depending upon your lifestyle, your needs are different. for my 1st double we got the jeep inline and it was so tough and awkward to push. the bigger child has to sit in the front seat and the car seat clips into the back seat. that weight in the front made it too hard to handle. so, we got ride of it. since we were moving to france with a 3y and 6mo old i got the bumbleride indie twin. it was narrower than other side by sides and i worried about not fitting into the tiny european places. it barely fits into the elevators, so for size it's been great. however i am a runner and the frame is not meant for many miles. it does well off roading, but not with lots of miles. i think a 3 wheeled jogger is much better than a 4 wheeled jogger. especially one that locks the front wheel swivel. i've had a busted frame and bent forks in the bumbleride. i've been disappointed in that matter when it is a pricey stroller. love the basket and shades and smoothness of it. but if you want to jog with it, i think the bob is better. looked at the phil and ted but my kids like to see and i didn't think the one on bottom would be happy not seeing well. have a friend who used it for jogging and it also doesn't hold up well for loads of miles. i got a single bob dualie and LOVE LOVE it. it is really durable, easy to manage. my sisters have the double and i've run with it and it feels the same. it fits through standard u.s. doors but side by sides are wider than inlines. however, they can be pushed one-handed easier so you can keep a hand on ledger if needed. just a thought, if my little girl needs a short lift, she sits in the foot area of the bob because it's deep like a pocket. it won't work for running with 3 kids or containing a screaming toddler. but to give ledger a lift for a rest, it works. since i love my bob more than my bumbleride, i keep my ergo handy and put the baby in it to wear her if my daughter needs to lie down to rest longer when out and about. when investigating a stroller, wheels are important to me. large air-filled wheels lead to a smoother, easier push for you and ride for the kids because they roll better over the bumps/cracks/dips in your path. if you are worried about flat tires, get thorn guards like what you can use for mountain bike tires and that should help.
ReplyDeleteyour boys are adorable. thank you for your openness and vulnerability in sharing tough and personal things. i appreciate your willingness to share your faith. take care of yourself amidst caring for little ones and happy stroller shopping!
I borrowed a friends "Bob" this summer when 9 of our 14 grandchildren came to visit. The "Bob" is the best of the best. I would save my dollars until I could get a "Bob" it is a dream.
ReplyDeleteI am a mom to 4 young boys. I have never commented on your blog before, but I just think you are the cutest mom and an amazing person. I HAD to comment on this. Get the BOB!!!!!! It is the Cadillac of all strollers. Even if it is big, there are very few times you will be shopping or using it somewhere with three tiny boys. Shop?! What is that? Haha. The BOB has a little perch at the front that ledger can sit on. My two year old sits there all the time (in fact, my five and seven year old do too...together). I can seriously push all four of my kids with it. It is expensive, but worth the $$$$$$!!'
ReplyDeleteWhen I had my twins....33 years ago, I could only get a side by side. I see the strollers one behind each other and wish they were available when I had mine. Easier to get in doorways. I like Jackie's idea of wrapping one of the twins up so Ledger can sit in the stroller with one of the other boys.
ReplyDeleteI am not a mom of multiples but am one of 2 kids who were close together. We bought a side by side. I detested it. Unless they have changed in the last 9 years, they were horrible to fit into places. Even the handicap doors took a lot of maneuvering. I used it for 6 months then it became such a pain I didn't use it again. It was a complete waste of money. IF I could go back, I would have bought an inline. I have several friends who have a phil and teds with the extra seat and LOVE it.
ReplyDeleteGood luck, your little men are sweet and are blessed to have their own angel.
I have 2 girls 16 months apart. I did hours of research and one thing I knew off the bat was that I didn't want a side by side because most places that I went, it would fit. I narrowed it down to the dual glide by Graco and the Optima Tandem Stroller by
ReplyDeleteContours. I liked the Graco because it folded down nicely and the many seating options for the Contours. In the end I made my hubby watch the u tube videos of people demoing both of them but I wouldn't tell him the price of either so that wouldn't be part of his decision making process. He choose the Optima Tandem Stroller by Contours...the more expensive one...lol. I have LOVED it. I can have the girls face each other, face away from each other, both towards me, or away. I love the options I have. It came with an attachment to hook on my carseat and two standard seats to attach. Here is the link for the Contours from Amazon...that is where I bought mine from.

People always comment on how nice it is and often refer to it as my baby limo :-) For me a good stroller is an item that I felt investing more in considering how much use I would get out of it. I can even just put one seat on my stroller if I choose. Anyhow I hope that helps.
After hours and hours of research I decided to get the Optima Tandem Stroller
ReplyDeleteby Contours. So glad that I did. I love, love, love all of the seating options for my two lil ones. I have a 2 year old and almost 1 yr old. They are only 16 months apart. I can have them face each other, face apart, both toward, away from me, or even just attach one seat on if I only have one of them. Set up and take down are super easy as well. People always comment on how nice it is and often refer to it as the baby limo...lol. Hope that helps :-) I bought mine off of amazon and listed the link for you below to check out if you wish. There is also reviews on uTube that you can watch as well.

Graco Ready2Grow is by far the most lightweight and versatile double stroller I've ever used! I'd buy one again in a heartbeat....even get a little sad that my kids are outgrowing it and I may not get to use it much more.

ReplyDeleteI have a 4 year old and 20 month old. We have the BOB dualie and love it! We bought it when our youngest was 3 months old. I can swing any door open and swivel it right in with no problem by myself. It pushes through gravel and grass easily. On a smooth surface I promise it seems to push itself. Also, when I have my nephew, he straddles the front wheel at the footrest and it's still easy to push. Good luck!!
ReplyDeleteI qualify to answer this question. I had a 6 year old and a 2 year old when my twins were born :)
ReplyDeleteI got the peg perego double stroller and LOVED it. It was a pain gettting it in and out of the car because you had to pop the seats off before it would collapse. BUT...You could flip the seats so both babies were facing you...or both were facing forward...or so that they were both facing each other (I almost always had it like this).
My friend had the side by side for her twins and they were always fighting and stealing each others stuff. My twins were always looking at each other but couldn't reach each other so it was PERFECT!!!!
I absolutely LOVED that stroller...check it out.
Hugs,
Trisha
ps - sometimes I would put my 2 year old in and put one baby in a carrier. Or...you can get an attachment for the stroller that hooks on the bottom (it's a little step with wheels).
I love my city select jogger. It's pricey but worth every penny! I didn't like the Phil and teds because the child in the back could only see side to side. Good luck!
ReplyDeleteWe have the Graco Ready2Grow and it is seriously the best. We love it. It's the most compact double stroller we were able to find. The car seats snap right in and it is SO easy to fold up. It fits in the trunk EASILY and is pretty light (especially for a double). I take it everywhere I go. My twin girls are now old enough that I can buckle them in without the car seats and it's so easy. Side by sides are the worst (unless it's a jogging stroller). You can't fit through doors with them! And you don't need the stress of that - really. Quick and easy is the best. Another thing I love about this stroller is that they can use it for a LONG time (it has the sit and stand feature. In fact, I believe there are 12 different ways you can use it or something crazy like that. You'll love it!

Just wanted to add another thing about the baby jogger city select is that although it is an "inline" stroller its on a single stroller chassis so its not long and a "bear" to push. Its so easy! you can get car seat adapters and again its the ONLY convertible stroller that has 2 full size seats (britax b-ready phil and teds, Uppa baby all have jump seats or smaller 2nd seats). I can't imagine that any other stroller out there comes close to this one. Sure you can buy a few different ones to satisfy all your needs but in the end you'll spend just as much as the City Select and the acessories and you wont have one awesome stroller. Also I can't imagine a sit and stand really working well for you since you have twins.
ReplyDeleteOkay, I know I don't have twins, but Miles and Vivian were close enough we bought a double stroller. Totally the City Select by Baby Jogger!!! I have even jogged with it when my Chariot Cougar 2 tires were flat. It's amazing!! Both strollers are really!! The Chariot is the best jogging stroller I have ever used, plus we love that it doubles for a bike trailer. We use it ALL the time. But back to the City Select. I asked tons of people in public is they liked their's and I never heard a bad thing about it, unless you consider no cup holder a negative thing, which I don't. Anyway, Vivian totally got her seat so dirty the other day, because ours is white, and I took the whole thing off the frame and WASHED it in the washing machine!!! That right there is worth it!! I could go on and on about it...it's smooth, easy to steer, adjusts for taller people, the brake is slick....on and on. But many people have already spoken to this. The only thing is it's not for three unless you buy the board for Ledger. I haven't used that so I can't speak to that. Good luck big decisions. Oh and I got mine at Albee Baby too. Saves tons of money!!!
ReplyDeleteBoth! I have 4 kids 5 years apart in age. But when I had the 3 three and under, I really wished that I would have made the investment in a triple stroller...actually, two of them (now,I really wish I had a quad stroller, because the older one still wants to ride sometimes) A side by side jogger for outside activities, and a tandem for mall trips and such. I actually got really good at putting three kids in a stroller. I had a heavier duty double stroller and I'd recline the back and put two kids back there, and one in front. I also had a double jogger that had a bar across the front so I could buckle the two younger ones in and the older could sit on the front, but not fall off because the bar kept him in. If I had to choose...I'd still get both. Find a cheaper (and on sale) tandem double, that easily fits in the car, (I got mine from target on sale for $90) and then get a good side by side jogging stroller. I use my jogging stroller far more. It's great for long walks, the zoo, the park, disneyland, I rarely load it in the van, but it's set up outside the back door and we use it almost daily. I always go to a grocery store where I know they have a cart that fits multiple kids, because no way am I pushing a stroller and dragging a cart to grocery shop. I don't need to use my tandem as often but I keep it in the car for quick trips to a craft store, or post office etc. If you get a jogger, just get a triple. Spend the small fortune and do it! Maybe your son is a calm angel...but mine are holy terrors (as well as my daughter). Being able to strap a toddler in a stroller and give him some snacks while you walk, or look at animals or whatever is so nice. And even more nice, is being able to keep him strapped in place while you get a bottle or nurse a baby, or you change the babies diaper. The small double tandem for the car is a great life saver for quick trips, where you think you can handle pushing a stroller and holding the hand of your toddler. Good luck! It's crazy trying to juggle three kids anywhere.
ReplyDeleteI have both a side by side Schwin and an in line Britax B-Ready. I love them both for different reasons. The side by side has a front swivel wheel so jogging is really easy. It is nice for walks around the neighborhood. It won't go through doors easily though. The Britax B-Ready is awesome. Two car seats will fit on it or just regular seats. It is the size of a regular single stroller. My kids love riding in it. The one child is under kind of where the basket goes but surprisingly they fight over who gets to go in the seat. You can turn both seats to face you or away. It's so nice that it only takes up a small amount of space. You don't have to remove the second seat either to fold it up! Hope this helps. I think the Britax stroller is the way to go personally. I spent a lot of time researching an it was the best price for what you get! Your little guys are so cute!
ReplyDeleteWe have a Chicco double stroller that has one in front and one in back. I REALLY wanted a side by side but am so glad my husband talked me out of it. The inline ones are hard enough to maneuver in small areas or while shopping, I have watched and can't imagine trying to do it with a side by side. The main reason we got it was because we already had the chicco carseat that fits it but i have liked it a lot. Its huge, but easy to fold up and down. It doesn't have a sit or stand however, which may be a downfall for Ledger/you!
ReplyDeleteI loved my double side by side jogging schwinn stroller! I had the one with a little swivel wheel in front that can also be locked. It is very easy to steer and light weight. All my other friends had BOBs which were also very nice but for half the price Schwinn was an excellent choice, with almost all the same features and I thought it pushed just as nice. The visors move and the seats recline for sleeping babies. I have three kids, my oldest is 7 so shes old enough to walk but if she wants to rest her legs I put her on the front where the cover is for the front wheel and she sits there. It all depends on what you are looking for. The schwinn fits through every door I have gone through. I use mine for more outdoor use, parks, running, trails, walk in subdivisions. I am not a mall girl so I’m not sure what would be best for the mall or if you plan on using it at the grocery store. I have never had a back to back inline stroller so I can’t really tell you how I think each compares. I have only had a single jogger in-step stoller with a big wheel in front that did not swivel, I did not like the big wheel in front, much harder to take turns with and the double schwinn. Loved the schwinn so much more! I have found walmart online has the best prices for schwinn and baby trend. We moved a long distance so I had to sell it and wished I never did, I miss it! Good luck, a hard decision to make.
ReplyDeleteI had my first three in 3 years. I love my bob but if I were to go back in time and do it again I'd buy a valco. You can put a jump seat on it for the 3rd kid.
ReplyDeleteDouble BOB for my twins and then a baby trend frame for the car seats. My three year old sits on the front of my BOB. Honestly it's not safe but it works for us! You do what you have to do with twins!
ReplyDeleteMy first double was the Graco front and back stroller. I hated it. It was SO, SO hard to push. I ended up giving it away. I will never ever buy and front and back stroller again. I bought a Jeep brand double side by side unbrella stroller which I highly recommend. It's fairly cheap (I paid about $115 dollars for it a few years back). I keep in in my car. It folds up pretty compact and pushes easily. We fit through all doors and I take it shopping and to the mall with me often. We also had no time maneuvering it through the Blackfoot fair, which says something. We also invested in a double side by side jogger. I got mine second hand for $40 and have never had a problem with it. They come up often in Rexburg- the BYUI for sale site. We use ours at home for walks and things like that. It does not fit in my car very well (GMC Acadia) If you get one with a large front (like where the front wheel is) Ledger would have no problem sitting on it. That's what my kids do. Then they can get up and down when ever they want. The jeep stroller doesn't hold car seats, but is well, well, well worth the money later. Good luck.
ReplyDeleteI have 7 children. My oldest is 14. My twins are 2 and my baby is 1. I love, love, love my Valco. We have had a lot of double strollers since my children are all close in age. My Kolocraft did not hold up. I loved my Stroll Air double but needed a triple for 3 kids under 2 and so I sold my Stroll Air and bought a Valco with a Joey Seat on the front. It has been the most expensive thing I have ever bought in my life next to a car but I can't say how much it is a life saver. My 4 year old was in preschool and I could take babies out sleeping in car seats and put them in my double and now that there are 3 babies, I go out for walks just to get my sanity. There is nothing like the quiet of having 3 babies in a stroller content while you jog around the block. The 12 inch tires are great. It has been worth every penny. I can cry and jog and feel so much better just to get out. I don't go to the store much since it is too hard to maintain the schedule that we survive on but just around the neighborhood is great. (Dad still gets groceries) I recommend the Valco hands down. You can get a double and look at an Englacha (look online) seat that attaches to the back like a skateboard with a seat but you can't jog with it. The Valco with a Joey seat is the best if you can manage to afford it.
ReplyDeleteOur first stroller was a Graco front and back stroller. It was so, so, so hard to push and I hated it. I ended up giving it away and will never ever buy an inline stroller again. I later bought a Jeep brand side by side double umbrella stroller which I highly recommend. It folds up pretty compact and is easy to push. We keep ours in our car and it goes ever where with us. It is easy to push and fits perfectly through doors. We take it shopping and to the mall with us and when my husband was a BYUI student, we took it for walks on campus and through the buildings and never had any problems being too large. We even took it to the Blackfoot fair with us and had no problems (which should say something). It doesn't hold car seats but it is still well worth it later. We also got a double jogger second hand for $40. We have never had any problems with it. If you watch the Rexburg BYUI for sale site (I forget the name of it) they come up pretty often. But it doesn't fit into my car with all my seats up (GMC Acadia) so we use it for walks and things near home. I love it. If you get one with a large front end (like where the wheel is) Ledger can easily sit on it and it allows him access to get off and on when he wants - like on a sit and stand. My sister does that with her kids and hers is an instep brand she bought second hand. If you do get a jogger, make sure you get one where the wheel swivels but has the option of locking in place. Those are easier to maneuver. Good luck. You have a sweet little family.
ReplyDeleteI have the City Select for my 1 yo twins. Worth every penny! I also have a buggy board that attaches to stroller for my 4 yo to stand on if it will be a long walk. I love how it glides and it maneuvers through small aisles. I love the different ways you can put the seats. I also have a side by side jogging stroller that I just keep in the garage. I found it off craigslist and has been awesome. Good luck
ReplyDeleteMy kids are 20 months apart and I really looked at what I wanted. I didn't want a huge stroller so I went with the Phil and Ted. I love it because it just feels like a regular stroller. You also don't have to have it as a double if you don't want. Google it, it's awesome!!
ReplyDeleteI had two kids 19 months apart and did research on strollers for months. I ended up buying a Bumbleride Indie Twin and I LOVED it. Easy to open, seats completely recline, great visors, fits through regular sized doors, wheels lock for jogging, tons of storage space underneath. One of the best purchases I've ever made. When we added a third child we bought a Valco twin along with a third "Joey" seat and visor. It's not as smooth as my Bumbleride was, but it's the size of a side by side double stroller but fits three children. Awesome for two babies or two smaller children and a toddler!!!
ReplyDeleteI am in your exact same situation- I have a 2 year old and 6 week old twins. I have researched this topic for many hours. I bought a snap and go for the carseats and I use this for situations where I just take the babies or when my son can walk. I bought the Valco Tri-mode with the Joey seat for when I want to take all 3 kids out. This stroller fits through doorways and it has larger tires so it serves the dual purpose of being able to take it shopping or on long walks. I also can take the Joey seat off and just have a double stroller once my son outgrows the stroller. I was worried about how my son would like the Joey seat but he seems to like "driving" the stroller.
ReplyDeleteThe Valco is an expensive stroller especially once you add on the Joey seat and such but I was able to buy both of the strollers from other twin moms. You can check Craigslist or your local multiples group.
I did a TON of research on this...best double for twins hands down is the City Select (assuming the price tag is something you can afford). It goes from a single to a double. It has a separate bar you can put on the back for Ledger, it is lightweight, easy to push and folds up SUPER small! Well worth the investment. Watch Craigslist or Ebay for a used one if it's too steep a price.
ReplyDeleteI'm adding my vote for the Contours Optima Tandem! It has several different seating options and the price is awesome! And it navigates so smoothly!! I spent over $600 on my single jogging stroller and it rides like a luxury vehicle so I was worried that spending less ($270) would possibly sacrifice the smoothness, but it really doesn't! This stroller actually earned multiple awards last year? I don't have twins, but my 2nd and 3rd child are 15 months apart so right now I have one toddler seat and one infant seat setting on it. I'm not even going to get in to depth here, you just need to check it out. It looks like someone already linked you to it, but here it is again.

I am a stroller fanatic. I have 4 boys and have tried stroller ever made I swear. If it were me I would buy the bob revolution dually. Several reasons, it's super easy to push, it's light considering it's a double, it's super easy to maneuver, and there is no problem fitting it through places. Having twins (kids) is hard enough, the right gear makes all the difference in the world, and you will get your moneys worth I promise. I have a friend with older twins and then a baby after, reverse of you and she has a small stand that attaches to the back of the stroller and little guys can sit and ride or stand and hold on to the the handle, it's a stroller accessory I have no idea who makes or where she got it, but they are available and from the pics I saw looked like a handy solution. If you get a different jogging stroller whatever you do make sure it has rotating front wheel (not stationery) that is the biggest deal of all. Good luck!
ReplyDeleteI have a Maclaren triumph side by side and I love it! It is not an "off roader" but if you can get a different stroller for jogging and stuff, I would do that. The Maclaren is awesome because it is an umbrella type stroller so it doesn't take up much room in the trunk or back of the van! It is the only stroller we take on vacations because it fits with all of our luggage. I got mine on sale on albeebaby.com. If you do that, you could look for double joggers at garage sales. I see them all the time in Boise!
ReplyDeleteBob revolution Duallie. Hands down. It is the easiest to maneuver, it turns on a dime, fits anywhere, is relatively light weight, durable, just all around awesome. I have four boys and I'm a bit of a stroller fanatic. Having kids esp twins is hard enough, the right gear makes all the difference in the world. Yes it's an investment, but you will get your moneys worth with this buy I promise. I saw pics of friend who has twins and then a baby reverse of what you've got at home right now, and she has a stroller attachment that is a little seat that hooks on to the back, and kiddos can ride sitting or standing to the attachment, looks like a total viable solution for a gal like you. I have no idea where she got it, or who makes it, but it was recently so it's most likely still available. Good luck!
ReplyDeleteA BOB double!! it's the greatest especially if you are into running.
ReplyDeleteAs a twin mom I love my side by side Combi stroller. I love that both kids can see what is going on and that they can interact with each other. It is as wide as a wheelchair so anywhere a wheelchair can go it can go. It's not the best for some stores in the mall but I rarely go alone so we just use our umbrella strollers for that. It also is easy to fold which is great and we are going on 4 years with ours so they hold up well too.
ReplyDeleteI didn't have multiples but I had my last two boys very close together. I loved my Maclaren side by side. It was incredibly easy to push even with two heavy toddlers in it. It turned very easy and folded down small for storage. I've recommended it to many of my fiends and they've all been happy with it as we'll. good luck.

ReplyDeleteI have a maclaren side by side umbrella. It is wonderful, I have traveled all over with it, it folds down super easy and small. It fits in all standard doorways. I've seriously been ALL OVER and have never encountered a place I couldn't fit through. Plus the handles are high enough you don't have to scrunch over to push it,
ReplyDeleteWhen I had my twins, I had a 2 year old as well. We loved our Kolcraft tandem. I believe it was like the Kolcraft Contours Optima. It collapses very easily. There are attachements so you can put the baby carriers right on the stroller. When the babies outgrow their infant seats, there is also the 2 seat option where you can make the seats face each other or both forwards or both backwards. My twins loved to face each other and jabber or play footsies. This stroller collapsed into 3 parts but it was the easiest to fit into any vehicle. Tandem strollers can be bulky and this one was very light weight. It had a handle (on the steering handle) for my 2 year old to hold onto which she loved having her very own handle. It was also very easy to manuver with 1 hand if I had to hold one child. Good luck!
ReplyDeleteI got the double BOB right after I had Scarlet. It's amazing for jogging and walks. Jett can sit on the front when he wants. But, it is massive. It takes up so much room in my Yukon, and we took it to City Creek once and decided we would never do that again. It's hard with big crowds and doorways and elevators, etc. I almost think I need two double strollers. One for running and one for shopping/indoors.
ReplyDeleteYou've had plenty of responses but I might as well add mine. I went with a double side by side umbrella stroller (Jeep at the time but that was 7 years ago). I found anything else just plain took up too much room in the trunk. I also had a 2 year old and she just walked, never had a sit and stand. She was young but did fine.
ReplyDeleteI have twins that are 5 and we are still using our Bob Revolution. It is a great running stroller and for parks, such as the zoo and Disneyland. When my twins were babies we could fit all four of our kids on the Bob. It kept me sane. We now live in California and frequent Disneyland and the beach. It still comes in handy. We also had a Graco Duo Glider (which was fine). I wish the City Select would have been around when my twins were babies. All of my friends with young kids rave about this stroller. You can add seats, turn them around, and add a step for your toddler to stand on. My toddler got left completely out of the stroller when I used the duo glider. He was only 2 and a half. Anyway, I thought it was worth leaving a comment on this subject. From one mother of twins to another. Aside from your mini van, then next best investment will be your stroller. :) Good luck!
ReplyDeleteWe have the uppababy vista. You could fit 3 kiddos with both seats and the ride on board, but it's pretty bulky for throwing into the car. I know the double BOB stroller has a seat you can put on the front for a 3rd kid.
ReplyDeleteI bought a BOB revolution Duallie, and I have to say it is the best purchase I have made since having my twins. They can go directly into the stroller by 6 weeks old, it has AMAZING features like 5 pt harness, shocks, wind and sun shade. It is EASY to push, super lightweight. And, my older boy sits on the front. Its not technically a seat, but he learned to sit there when they were born (he was 2), and he still does. It is still easy to push with 3 boys. I have hours and hours of use with mine. We walk almost everyday, and take it whenever we go anywhere we will use it. And it is still in perfect condition.
ReplyDeleteHi There! I have been reading your blog for years but have never left a comment! I have worse than twins if that is possible....hahaha....3 boys born in 3 years and 2 weeks! All in diapers and all at different developmental stages...that is why I say worse! And that is a joke btw, my oldest is a twin and his twin brother lives in heaven with your sweet Preslee! He died at 16 days. I sooo know your grief and the words you write I can write exactly the same....anyhow, buy a BOB dualie revolution. I still use mine. I actually use it as a triple. One kid sits where the feet go between the legs of one of the boys. I also have a sit and stand...& 4 other strollers! I remember exactly where you are! So hard to go anywhere! My youngest is 3 1/2 just turned 5 and 6 1/2....life is fun now!!! Good luck....
ReplyDeleteValco Twin Tri-Mode bc you could put all three in if you add a Joey seat to it! Saves me! My twins are 12 months exactly younger than my daughter. My 2 year old loves to sit up front and my 1 year old twins in back! You can take off the JOey seat and it's just a double jogger! Great quality and customer service!
