Bedtime – is a party! Oh it’s stressful getting all three boys down, and they pick their nights to stay up for hours all playing with each other. There have been many times we find Ledger sitting in one of their cribs (or jumping back and forth) and even though we get mad and tell them to go to bed, I secretly love it. I think part of it is due to the fact I never had a sister and didn’t share a room. I hope they always stay this close. Cruiz tends to fight going to bed a little harder than Cannon. But they do have their own crib, we noticed months back Cannon slept better in the far crib. Well recently, I’ve switched them up a couple of times and Cannon just can’t handle it. And if I give them a bottle while putting them to bed, Cruiz will always wake up with two bottles.
Walking – Cannon decided he would join his brother and walk along furninture, but Cruiz is attempting to walk. He walks from different pieces of furniture, but towards the end of the month started walking. He still crawls more, but it’s only a matter of time…I’m nervous :)
Eating – We have a tiny kitchen and so both boys still eat on the ground in their bumbos. No matter how far apart I place them, they will find a way to scoot themselves back together. Then they steal each other’s food, and they start fighting/screaming. It’s quite annoying. For their Birthday my parents bought us new booster seats they won’t be able to slide. Hallelujah.
Oinkers – These kids can eat! It is hard to keep them full. Cannon ate two corndogs for lunch the other day (he stole Cruiz’s) Cannon is a great eater, and will eat everything. Lately, Cruiz has become picky and will scream until I let him out or he gets something he wants. Every once in awhile, they out eat their older brother. It’s going to cost a fortune to feed all three boys in the future.
Hearing – We visited the ENT and arranged to have tubes put in the next week. The Dr said Cruiz ha a large amount of fluid, and the color had turned amber, which means it had been there for quite a while. He explained having that much fluid in the ears would make Cruiz hear like he’s under water.
Sunday night we dropped Ledger and Cannon off at my parents house. I was nervous having Cruiz and Cannon spend the night apart, but they both did fine. My mom said Cannon was extremely quiet and acted more relaxed when Ledger was in the room. Cruiz on the other hand was quite funny. He soaked up all the alone time with his parents that he could, which made us realize we need to make more one on one time for all three boys.
We arrived to the surgical center by 6:15 am and Cruiz did great for not eating past midnight. After checking in and getting him ready, the actual procedure only took about 20 minutes, and only needed to be monitored for 30 minutes afterward. Cruiz threw up on the way home just finishing a bottle. We immediately put him to bed, and once he woke up we saw a difference with hearing. He clued in to the TV, he was very alert, and he has become an extremely happy boy. I realized the reason he has only been aware of Cannon and myself is due to his hearing. He’s lived in his own little world. He has recently started babbling and mimicking. The Doctor said for every month their hearing is delayed, their speech will be too. It won’t be surprising if he speaks a little slower than Cannon.
Size – wearing size 5 diapers (the size Ledger wore before potty training) and 18 month clothing. We laugh, all three boys can wear the same swimsuits. Ledger better watch out, these boys are going to be bigger than him. At the ENT Cruiz weighed in at 22 lbs. My guess is Cannon is about the same weight.
Teething – Until this month I was always surprised when a tooth would pop through. They never showed signs of teething. Then suddenly while working on their 8th tooth, they both started with all the teething symptoms. Two teething babies is definitely not delightful, but they’re champs. They both have eight teeth, Cannon took the lead though.
Twins - We spent some time with cousins and I realized these boys have never attached to blankets, toys, or anything other than their twin. they will rarely sleep without the other in the room. So if one wakes up early and gets off schedule, it makes for a hectic day. But I’ve noticed they like to touch one another more, sit right next to each other, and are always keeping the other in their sight if someone else is holding them. I love their connection.
I’m a little sad their monthly updates are finished. This year has been strange. I’ve noticed I’m baby hungry. Before I frighten you, don’t worry, there will NOT be a baby on the way anytime soon, but I realized where they cried for seven month straight, I didn’t get to enjoy them when they were super young. I feel a little cheated :) The other thing I’ve noticed is its taken a long time to connect/bond with them. There was very little bonding during the time they cried, and with having two babies, I spend half the time with them. It wasn’t until about this month that I feel like we’ve really bonded. (Not sure if this is all making sense) I think another part of the problem is due to the fact they often go to each other instead of me when something is wrong. It’s just been a different experience raising these two.
Patrick – This guy is the best. Until now we’ve only had one child at a time, so he’s always helped, but I did most of the work, and I preferred it that way. Then the twins came, and he jumped in and does as much, and sometimes more when he’s home. When we’re in public, he often changes the diapers, and goes out of his way to help with what he can. He became the swaddler, bottle maker, and he bathes them quite often. He takes all the boys while I cook or wash dishes, and I’m extremely grateful to have had him by my side this past year. There’s no way I could have survived without him.
